Master of Theological Studies

The Master of Theological Studies (MTS) is a professional degree designed to prepare students for vocational ministry. The curriculum provides theological training suitable for roles such as undergraduate teaching and Biblical counseling.

The MTS is open to qualified men and women with a baccalau­reate degree or its equivalent from an approved four-year college or university. The MTS must be completed in residence; however, many of the courses can be taken online. Continuation in the program is based upon maintaining a 2.3 (C+) grade point average. Candidates for the MTS degree must meet all graduation requirements listed in the seminary catalog. Master of Theological Studies classes transfer into the MDiv program.

Learning Outcomes

The graduating Master of Theological Studies student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate competency in the use and application either Biblical Greek or Biblical Hebrew.
2. Interpret the biblical text with sound methodological principles and practices.
3. Articulate theology in a manner consistent with the biblical text.
4. Apply a biblical and theological framework to local and global ministry.
5. Counseling Concentration Outcome: Demonstrate competency for biblical counseling.

Prerequisites

 1. Applicants must have completed a four-year undergradu­ate degree or its equivalent from an accredited school. Applicants from non-accredited schools will be evaluated on an individual basis.
2. A minimum college cumulative grade point average of 2.4 (on a 4.0 scale). Applicants with a college cumulative grade point average below 2.4 (on a 4.0 scale) may be accepted on a probationary basis.
